Deadly Head-On Crash in North County

Authorities are investigating a fatal head-on crash in North County. It happened Tuesday afternoon near the Lawrence Welk Resort.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 60-year old woman lost control of her Honda on Champagne Boulevard, veered right, then skidded to the left into oncoming traffic. As the woman’s car entered oncoming traffic, it was broadsided by another car driven by a 70-year old San Diego woman.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

Another DUI accident in San Diego County claims the lives of two.

11 years. That was the sentenced handed down this week to a Navy sailor who drove drunk, then struck and killed an elderly couple as they took their daily walk.

Earl Decarlos Smith Jr., 21, pleaded guilty in October to gross vehicular manslaughter.

Police say he was driving east on Old Castle Road in Valley Center early in the morning on July 7th when his 2011 Toyota Corolla drifted to the right and struck the couple as they walked with their backs to traffic. Both victims died at the scene.

Four people were injured Saturday after construction along I-805 blocked a driver from pulling over to the shoulder.

The accident caused a multi-vehicle pile up near East Palomar in Chula Vista.

Police say a woman experienced car trouble and tried to pull over to a safe place, but cement barriers due to ongoing construction along that stretch of I-805 prevented her from getting to safety.

Her disabled car led to a four-car chain reaction pileup. Officials say one person needed to be pulled from a vehicle. All of the injuries reported were minor.

San Diego police are investigating a hit and run accident involving a skateboarder. The incident happened Tuesday night in East Village.

The skateboarder is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Meantime, police are looking for a light-colored four-door Hyundai with possible damage to the hood and windshield.

The name or age of the victim has not been released.

As one of San Diego Personal Injury Attorneys, I tell victims of hit and run accidents the at-fault party is typically held responsible for reimbursing injury victims for the costs of the treatment of their condition and any other damages incurred in the wreck. Unfortunately though, when a driver flees the scene of an accident, injury victims find themselves struggling to cover expenses on their own.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has launched an internal investigation following a pedestrian accident involving a deputy and a woman on a mobility scooter.

According to officials, Deputy Khristina Gimeno was driving the patrol car last Friday morning when it struck the scooter in an Encanto crosswalk. A nearby surveillance camera reportedly captured the accident.

The woman on the scooter was injured and complained of hip and neck pain. Officials believe she has just finished grocery shopping at a nearby store just before the accident.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident Shuts Down I-5

A deadly pedestrian accident shut down a portion of Interstate 5 near the Coronado Bridge last night. Police say the pedestrian was struck by at least three cars while reportedly trying to run across the freeway around 7:30pm.

The interstate was shutdown for several hours while investigators worked the scene. Police have not yet confirmed whether the victim was a man or a woman. One of the driver involved in the accident was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Unfortunately San Diego pedestrian accidents like last night’s incident are all too common in this region. Pedestrian accidents can happen on any road and at any time of day and night.

Tips for a Successful CRPS Case

Handling a CRPS lawsuit can be time consuming and complicated. And, unfortunately, if the case is handled by an attorney who doesn’t specialize in CRPS cases, the case may be lost. For an attorney to handle an CRPS case, he must have knowledge of the particular area of the law involved, knowledge of medicine generally, and knowledge of CRPS in particular.

As a qualified CRPS attorney in San Diego, there are a number of way I can ensure that cases involving patients with CRPS get resolved quickly and successfully.

Stick to One Doctor

Jumping from doctor to doctor can be problematic. During trial, the defense may argue that you sought doctor after doctor until you found one who would report what you wanted. You may be portrayed as being emotionally unbalanced. Multiple doctor and insurance claims may also raise a red flag in court.

San Diego Knockout Attacks

San Diego police are investigating so called “knockout attacks” in which people on the street randomly punch strangers. They’ve been happening across the country… and now, allegedly here in the San Diego area.

Victoria Hyatt tells 10News her husband was the latest victim of an unprovoked attack near the Gaslamp Quarter at Second Avenue and Ash Street.

“They weren’t talking to each other,” she said. “They were just standing next to each other and then out of the blue, the light changed for him to walk across the crosswalk and he just … bam, hit him as hard as he could.”

She says man simply walked away after the sucker punch while her husband stumbled back to his office to report his assault to police.
