One person was killed Friday, two people were hurt, following a series of car accidents in La Jolla.
Officials say the accidents happened in the early afternoon, when a 58-year-old man lost control of his 1993 Mercedes-Benz sedan in the 6500 block of La Jolla Scenic Drive. The man careened into a newer model Mercedes, then continued on and hit a light post.
A passenger in the older car, a man in his 70s, died at the scene. Medics took the two drivers to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The accidents closed down La Jolla Scenic Drive for most of the afternoon. Police are still investigating what caused the 58-year-old driver to lose control of his car.
