Inspection Letter Grades Required for San Diego Food Trucks

Since San Diego Food Poisoning investigations and failed restaurant health inspections are so common, San Diego county has moved forward with a new ordinance mandating that all San Diego food trucks be required to post inspection letter grades.

County officials say they inspect more than a thousand mobile food operations, but until now operators were not required to display the results. Under the new ordinance, the food trucks will get decals instead of cards so the grades can’t be transferred among trucks.

Supervisor Ron Roberts tells 10News, “I want to ensure people here — whether they’re going to a restaurant in the conventional sense or a mobile food truck — that they can do that with confidence and know that those facilities have been inspected and certified.”

Pedestrian Fatality Near Rancho Santa Fe

A woman has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after allegedly hitting a nanny who was pushing a baby stroller in a pedestrian crosswalk.

It happened in early February in Torry Highlands.

Authorities have also charged the driver for failing to stop at a red light, and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The accident happened at the intersection of Camino del Sur and Via Verrazzano, killing one adult and severely injuring a toddler.

San Diego Motorcycle Accident Takes Woman’s Life

A 31-year-old woman was killed in a San Diego Motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon. Police say the motorcycle she was riding in the Tecate area struck a truck that had turned in front of her, throwing her from the bike.

The driver of the Ford F-150, an 85-year-old man from Tecate, suffered only minor injuries from broken glass that cut the left side of his face.

Officials say the woman, who was wearing full safety gear, had little time to veer out of his way and broadsided the vehicle on the driver’s side.

Class Action: Suave Product Causes Hair Loss

A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of consumers – many from the San Diego area – who purchased “Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit,” alleging it causes significant hair loss.

Plaintiffs allege they purchased the product because they believed that it would smooth their hair and coat it with Keratin, a protein found naturally in hair. Unbeknownst to Suave consumers, the Keratin treatment contained an ingredient or combination of ingredients (Tetrasodium EDTA and DMDM Hydantoin) that causes significant hair loss upon proper application.

Microwave Fire Dangers Investigated by Consumer Product Safety Commission

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched a serious investigation into several fires allegedly started by faulty KitchenAid microwaves.

The model in question is the over-the-range KitchenAid KHMS155LSS.

Officials says fires involving the microwave were reported in Washington state and Florida. In some cases, fires started when the microwave was not in use. Another microwave fire was reportedly caused by electrical arcing.

Whirlpool, which owns KitchenAid, says it has not been able to verify a single microwave fire report.
